Blueberries

Blueberries are so incredibly easy to grow, I think everyone should have at least two blueberry bushes. If you are in hardiness zone 8 or higher (almost all of Georgia is), the rabbiteye varieties are best. You also want two different rabbiteye types for best pollination. Plant them in a sunny location, throw a handful of fertilizer around once or twice a year, and harvest them. I would recommend that once you see the small berries on the plant, make sure they have at least an inch of water a week. Once they start to turn color, a little extra water will make the berries even bigger. The plant is a very nice decorative shrub too, and can be pruned back to whatever size you want. We eat them fresh in season, and they freeze well. Some people prefer blueberry jam, but we make blueberry jelly.
