Muscadines are generally pest-free, but I have had problems with ants. You can ignore a few ants, but if you see a trail of them or an anthill close, it’s best to get rid of them. I have solved the problem with Sevin at the base of the plant and the support posts. Japanese beetles can be a problem that you can control with Sevin, but they seem to prefer other garden plants, in my experience. Another pest I will mention is the saddleback. It doesn’t hurt the plant, that I can tell, but it will hurt like a wasp sting if you touch one. Sevin can also control these, Aphids can also be a problem, but you can control them with insecticidal soap.
