Muscadines

Some people call muscadines ‘The Grape of the South.’ Even though it’s possible to grow grapes here in Central Georgia, it takes work. Muscadines, on the other hand, are quite easy to grow here. You can usually take a walk in the woods and find them growing wild. The photo below is of muscadines growing wild just in the edge of the woods behind my house.

If you want a good crop, though, there are better varieties that produce a more abundant harvest and a sweeter fruit. In my opinion, muscadines make the very best jelly. I will sample a few in the field too, but jelly is the reason I grow them.
