Post-hole diggers are needed for any support poles you need for your garden, but I use them frequently in planting too. In the Georgia clay, it helps to dig the hole much deeper than the plant needs to be. You can then refill the hole partway and set the plant on top of that loosened soil. That will make it much easier for the taproot to grow downward, accelerating plant growth. They do come in somewhat different weights. The ones on the left are much heavier than the ones on the right, which I prefer.
